Pirate Historical Romance

Historical romance is a subgenre of two literary genres, the romance novel and the historical novel. Historical romance is set before world war two. It is divided into many period or ages.

One of this subgenre was the private age. The novels which depict the stories from this period enjoy massive popularity with their adventures on the high seas. Pirate romance novels have the perfect plots which are thoroughly exciting, adventurous, thrilling and sets the reader’s pulse racing and makes them want to read about yet another high sea battle or amazing sword fight.

The image of the pirate
Pirate novels feature a male or female who is sailing, or thought to be sailing, as a pirate or privateer on the high seas. Pirate heroes are the ultimate “bad boys,” who dominate all for the sake of wealth and freedom. The pirate is the alpha male who is roguish, brave, lusty and independent. The pirate is the captain who likes to live life on his own terms and is the master of his destiny.

Pirate Romance
Pirate romances are read with great enthusiasm and passion all around the world. People love to read about the adventurous trips, legendary animals and blood chilling battles.

In a well-written pirate romance, the reader is swept away onto the high seas, feeling the wind and salt spray as it billows through the ship’s sails. The daredevil pirate leaps to life in the chains, using sword, cutlass, and cannon to defend the woman he loves. The heroine bravely fights alongside him, until the smoke clears and the sea returns to calm.

Pirate heroes and heroines
The heroine usually has a very powerful character in a pirate romance novel. The women are portrayed as strong and successful characters that live by their own laws.  It also shows her struggle to maintain her freedom of choice while living the life of a man. If the heroine is not the protagonist of the novel then she is usually captured by the hero in the early part of the novel, and then is forced to succumb and eventually fall in love with her captor. Regardless of the gender of the pirate, their strength and courage as they go through one adventure after another is what keep the readers turning the pages all night long.

Life of the pirate

A pirate lives his life on his own terms. But the life of the real pirate is extremely different as to the romantic notion portrayed in books and on screen.

The life of a pirate was harsh and many of them died young. Crews created their own strict chain of commands and codes, and punishment for committing a wrong act was brutal. Many pirates were dishonest and cruel, raping and plundering, a reflection of life on the edge.

Popularity of pirate novels
Pirate stories were very famous throughout the historical period and their popularity continues to grow. Pirate novels are filled with sparks of exhilaration and adventure that ignites into passion and passion is the main element that makes a romantic novel a success.
